In chapter 5 they are worried about killing bob it was wrong,but at the same time it was good because he did it was self defense because pony was getting drowned and now they have to have a big fight with the Socs and now since johnny killed bob they are fugitives that the police are looking for so they cut their hair and everything so they wouldn't recognize. Also when Pony,Johnny,Dally went to the Gas station to hang out so they could eat there lunch but when they were going to walk in they stopped and they saw a blue mustang and then they new it was the “Socs” then randy told ponyboy that they didn't want to fight. After when there talking they went to the church and then they saw that the church was on fire then Dally,Johnny and Ponyboy went
It was now that Jonas was informed of his duty as receiver of memories. Jonas was forced to leave his place of comfort and leave the safe world that he had been in up until this point.
The previous receiver-to-be was Rosemary. She was serene, lovely and intelligent girl. The giver told Jonas that he loved her, her bright eyes, careful listening and enthusiasm. Week had passed, she suffered with the memories the giver gave her, poverty, loneliness, terror and hunger. The giver commented sadly that one day she came to him and gave him a sweet kiss on the cheek, on this day she didn't came to her family unit.
Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo. All of a sudden, Jonas spotted a tangled mass of yellow. Then, more colors appeared, blue and red, then green. Her green eyes were visible as Jonas sat in the bitterly cold snow with Gabriel nuzzled in his chest.
The Giver Hero’s Journey "A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself." Joseph Campbell. Jonas from Lois Lowry’s The Giver makes that example true by making the choice to fight against the community. While his journey might differ slightly from what is considered an orthodox Hero’s Journey, he still has a journey consisting of steps and goals.

In the end of chapter 22, it said, “He wept because he was afraid now that he could not save Gabriel, he no longer cared about himself.” (Lowry 218). This piece of evidence shows that Jonas, had he not been trying his hardest to keep Gabriel alive, would have been fine with dying due to the fact he didn’t care about his life or what happened to him. The only thing keeping him alive was his reliance on the fact that Gabe needed him which proves that he relies on Gabe just to keep surviving. In addition there were multiple other quotes proving this such as , “The Giver hugged him.
When I was eight-year-olds, I was always told to read a book by my teachers and peers and I absolutely loathed it. One day I was handed an assignment, we were set off to check out a book from the library to read during reading time, which during this time I dreaded. After what seemed like hours, I decided on a Junie B. Jones book that caught my eye. After a brief reading session of one hour, when I finished the small chapter book, at once I decided to check out another one of the books in the series which lead to another one and so on. On average I devote about twenty hours of my time a week reading books.
Imagine living in a world with no freedom, choice, individuality, and color. Would you want to live in a world like this? Most of you would have said no, but a boy named Jonas has no choice, but to adhere to his community’s rules. In the book and the movie, “The Giver”, by Louis Lowery, Jonas finds it difficult to accept his community’s way of life. However, after he becomes the receiver of memory, he challenges the community after discovering what the world used to be like before sameness.

In The Giver, the idea that a sled symbolizes freedom is illustrated through the main character, Jonas, when he gets his job as The Receiver where he will receive memories from the past even the bad ones. As he starts receiving memories from the past, he learns what the world is actually like and how his community´s older members shade everything away.
Jonas felt anger for his father and the pain he feels for the baby twin. On page 168 in the giver,Jonas realized that they been playing a game of war ( Lowry). Jonas feel sad and misunderstood for the boy in war. Jonas sadly understood that no one know what he is feeling. These are like real life because some careless people don 't think about others and think that everything is just a joke.
Thomas Warden English 346 Sr Christine Mihelich April 23, 2018 Utopia in “The Giver” by Lois Lowry “The Giver” by Lois Lowry is a great example of how an ideal world, or a utopia could never exist without a few faults. Jonas, the protagonist of the novel, faces trials and tribulations uncovering the reality of this so called utopia. Lowry shows the reader how the Elders of this perfect society have controlled their people to the point of fault. The Elders have a firm grasp on how to restrict the emotions, privacy, and thoughts of this society.

When people try to create perfect societies, it creates mayhem! Our modern day society is far from a perfect society in the novel The Giver. While appearing perfect, Jonas’ society has many rules and laws under the surface that make it much more dangerous than modern day society.

Questions 1.The arrival of a jet might be a terrifying experience for the entire community because they do not see jets very often only when a cargo plane is dropping off supplies. It also might make it more terrifying for the community because nothing unordinary ever happens so they are taking the jet very seriously and making sure everyone goes indoors. 2. I think that when someone is released from the community they are sent out of the community to live somewhere else.
