Think of some of the feelings you have had today in a specific situation. Put your feelings into words like they do in the book.
Using examples from The Giver, answer the following questions:
a. Why would they share feelings like this?
While reading chapters one and two in The Giver, I came to the conclusion that the characters share their feelings to each other is because it somewhat creates an openness or specific atmosphere in communication that can later lead to an advantage. For example, when Jonas and his family were sharing their feelings, he learned about what each of his family member’s felt, and what had upset them during their day. That is to say that Jonas’s family was able to feel closer, and express themselves, along with their feelings, through words. Lastly, I think that the author, Lois Lowry created a way to show that it is required to tell your family members about your feelings, when Jonas said that he would rather not say tell them his feelings, but it is against the rules to not share.

Through communicating with my family, I think that I would have a clearer understanding about the personalities of my family members. I would be able to relate their experiences to my own, similar to the way that Jonas and his parents can relate about the Ceremony of Twelve. I strongly believe that I would benefit from sharing my feelings because my comprehension of sympathy, loyalty, and sensibility would increase. In conclusion, I would feel closer to my family, and would be more open to talking about the way I feel in difficult
