Movies can bring a world to life before our eyes. It makes characters into living, breathing flesh and blood. Books on the other hand, let you live everything as though we there as part of the story. There have been great movies made from books, but sometimes, movie versions of books tend to upset readers because they are not exactly like the book. When a Movie director works from an adapted screenplay, the results are different from reading the book. For example, a Movie that exactly follows a novel would probably be too long for most audiences to sit through at a single showing, so some things must be and are left out. A book can easily convey things to the reader that are more difficult for a movie to convey. Things like background information …show more content…

Many people believe that the Movie The Godfather is better than the Mario Puzo novel upon which it is based (barnesandnoble). To many the director of The Godfather improved the book and took out a lot of material that was not relevant to the main story that was written by Mario Puzo. Among the other recognized movies that many people consider to be better than the book versions are A Clockwork Orange, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, The Shining, Psycho and Jaws. Though it is known that Stephen King was unhappy with Kubrick’s method to putting The Shining on screen. King disliked Shelly Duvall’s frail “scream and run” character and Nicholson’s rapid descent into insanity, as opposed to the book, Jack Torrance, who experienced a slower and more painful loss of his marbles (Barnes and noble). Once a Moviemaker chooses a setting and characters, we are restricted to seeing those characters and settings through their eyes. However, 1,000 diverse readers of the same book can have 1,000 different ideas of a character’s appearance. If an actor does not measure up to what was imagined by the public when reading the book, there is disappointment. Remember the ruckus that ensued when the Fifty Shades Of Grey cast was revealed?
