I’m going to prove that Wrath was more willing to make and sincerer about his confession than Gluttony was. Wrath used to be a Friar, so it would make sense that he’s still religious and would want to repent his sins anyway. Gluttony was easily persuaded to enter a tavern when he should have been heading to go and repent. Wrath had a longer confession, which means he had thought more about what he had done wrong and seemed truthfully sorry. Gluttony’s confession was while he was sick and hung-over from getting intoxicated the night before. He seemed to want to get it over with quickly and thus he did not honestly care about being abolished of his sins. Therefore, Wrath was much more serious and sincere about his confession. Firstly, Wrath was a former Friar, as shown on line 135. Which means he was used to hearing repentance and spent time in the church holding service. The fact that Gluttony chose his own personal desire over doing what was right and going to confess, shows that he does not feel sorry for his sinning. It shows that because he could not even make it to the church in order to confess, he does not take it very seriously, either. This act of going into the tavern displays that Gluttony is not ready to change the errors of his ways and to cease in sinful activity. Had he truly cared about it, he would have been more persistent on refusing Betty the Brewer’s offer and heading off to make his confession. He would have already realised that what he was doing was sinful because his consciousness would have been more focused on the confession instead of his own personal want.
