Has anyone ever learned about The Great Depression? There are so many details about the Great Depression that we may not know of yet. Everyone learns about this topic in their history class because it had just such a huge impact on the United States today. There is so much to explore about The Great Depression such as, what was the Great Depression, how did it start, what was the Dust Bowl, and what did Franklin Roosevelt do to help end the Great depression? It all began with the stock market crash of October 1929. One of the main reasons the stock market crashed is because some of the largest tycoons all the way down to janitors put their savings into stocks causing the stock market to experience rapid expansion. The stock market began to be in debt due to unemployment and production issues. According to the text, “The Great Depression”, “production had already declined and unemployment had risen, leaving stock prices much higher than their actual value. Additionally, wages at that time were low, consumer debt was high, the agricultural part of the economy was struggling due to drought and falling food prices and banks had an excess of large loans that could not be paid back”. It was their way of life. Between the animals and the crops, farming was how they ate; how they survived. The Dust Bowl was when winds came through, picking up enormous amounts of dirt and distributing it all over the place. The Dust Bowl happened because of the use of improper farming techniques and bad drought conditions. This resulted in many injured and terrified people. In the text “Black Blizzards Created the Dust Bowl” from McKim Dell’s The Dust Bowl, it explains what all the results of the Dust Bowl was, such as, “The insides of houses became layered with dirt. Cars and farm equipment became buried in the deep drifts of soil that the Dust Bowl caused. Livestock choked to death on the dirt or were buried alive in it” (Dell). Consequently, they had to move and try to find work and a new life, but the Great Depression was going on so it was hard to find that too. Furthermore, Franklin Roosevelt came in as president and did everything he could to put a stop to all this
