Elections were held for a National Assembly tasked with creating a new parliamentary constitution, and in the town of Weimar on February 1919, the newly elected National Assembly met and formed the Weimar Coalition. Friedrich Ebert, who was the leader of the Social Democratic Party was elected President of the Weimar Republic. President Weimar signed the Weimar Constitution into law which cover the organization of the Reich, or the Germany State, and the rights of the German people. The Weimar Constitution had 181 articles. Some of the most important articles stated that the German Reich was a Republic.
