The Great Famine Tolls Analysis

202 Words1 Pages
The Great Famine was a catastrophe that caused a great deal of trauma among many people. Many writers go on to discuss the views of how and why this tragedy occurred. In the excerpt Famine Roads and Famine Memories by Emily Lawless, she goes on to discuss the disruption of time and place caused by this disaster. The discussion of physical landscape stops it from being a personalized experience and allows the reader to visually understand the distress people faced and what scars it left on Ireland. Lawless goes on to compare the marks left on the roads and bridges and says that it 's as if a bad architect and the empty stomachs had a natural connection. This allows the reader to fully grasp how many places were abandoned and left in destruction.
