Love The Great Gatsby was published by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1952; the evolution of the story is love. Between Gatsby and Daisy, the affection developed from prasaic to exalting and then ends in tragedy. Gatsby and Daisy’s love relationship brought him a huge treasure, but also contributed him to the death. They experienced from pure love to complicated one. In the early time before Daisy married to Tom, Gatsby and Daisy affected each other rustically. After Daisy first met by chance with Gatsby when he was a young officer stationed in the south during World War I, she was in true love with him. When a wealthy man named Tom asked her to marry him, though she promised Gatsby she would wait for him, she married to Tom. She could not pass up the possibilities of being married to a wealthy man and living a good life. When Gatsby came back, he became a millionaire. Gatsby was unilaterally passionate to Daisy and gave real love but he got Daisy’s plastic love in return. Gatsby was zealous, while Daisy was cold. She was cold to Gatsby but cared her self-interest. In Gatsby’s eyes, Daisy was his American Dream. Gatsby has made Daisy a symbol of everything he valued. So he was loyal to Daisy, but Daisy was still doubtful. When Gatsby compelled Daisy to tell Tom that she was never loved him, he was defeated. As it was written in chapter seven, Daisy confessed to Tom that she never loved him, but in the cockles of her heart, she really loved him once. She could not deny it. When he came to the end that he needed to confirm Daisy’s emotionally true love to him, Daisy finally chose Tom. Therefore, Gatsby’s American Dream was broken.
