The novel starts off with the introduction of Nick Carraway. Nick acts as the narrator of the story. He describes himself as a man with many morals. He hints at a man named Gatsby, who will become the main focus of the novel a little later on. He talks of the upbringing of his family through the bond business. He came to New York in 1922 and entered the same business as his father. He lives in little cottage at West Egg in Long Island. Nick mentions that his neighbor was Gatsby who lived in a giant, beautiful mansion. He travels over to East Egg to visit his old friend Tom and his cousin Daisy Buchanan.
