In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the actions of others can shape someone else’s life. An example of a person who shaped another’s life is Daisy Buchanan. She is the wife to Tom Buchanan and Gatby’s lover. Gatsby was around thirty years old when he saw Daisy again. He made a lot of bad decisions to try and get Daisy back that led to his death by George Wilson.

In many cases, people may be forced by external circumstances to make decisions that they would not have made if such circumstances did not present themselves. The results of such decisions can either have a positive or negative impact on the lives of an individual. Such a case is well presented in the story A &P by John Updike where the major character, Sammy is portrayed to be indecisive. In this story, Sammy, the major character continually rebels against his coworkers, his boss, customers, and sometimes himself. His rebellion appears to have more disadvantages than advantages as it complicates his life in many cases.
In the fifth chapter of the great Gatsby, daisy meets Gatsby, after not knowing his whereabouts for four, years in Nick’s home. Daisy seems to contain vast amounts of joy when she speaks to Jay in Nick’s home, but got more excited to see Jay’s mansion. Later Daisy and Nick accompanied Jay to his dormitory where he brags to Daisy about all the expensive clothing he owns. She contains so much emotion “she sobbed” and tells “They’re such beautiful shirts’” (page 92).
The hit song “1000 Years” by Christina Perri, has many ties to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s character Jay Gatsby, from his novel The Great Gatsby. One of the strongest ties is clear when the speaker in “1000 years” says, “I have died everyday, waiting for you / Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years” (Perri 8-9). In the song, the speaker claims that she has loved the listener for a very long time and has been patiently waiting for that person’s arrival. Similarly, in The Great Gatsby, after Gatsby answers Daisy’s question of how long it has been since they have seen each other Nick says, “The automatic quality of Gatsby’s answer set us all back at least another minute” (Fitzgerald 92).
Gatsby’s “Greatness” Greatness is showed by the choices we make in life. From how we see the circumstances and how we react to them. Gatsby is not as great of a man as Nick claims that he is. Gatsby makes foolish, childish and delusional decisions and not at all great.

Gatsby tells Tom the truth about Daisy and himself because Tom bombards him with questions when he says, “’She never loves you, do you hear?’
Poor judgement is the stem of many issues, especially in the context of social situations. The blurred lines between right and wrong lead to poor choices and major complications, sometimes going as far as death. F.
