The Hope Of Gatsby In the novel “The Great Gatsby” Nick says “Gatsby had an extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person and which it is not likely I shall ever find again” there is evidence of this view of Gatsby throughout the novel. Gatsby’s view for his life is grand and filled with hope and determination. Anyone who meets him feels this sense of something great which Gatsby strives for. Gatsby’s entire life revolves around the hope to reach greatness and the entanglement of romance. Throughout the book Gatsby’s life is a mystery. Not just to the readers but to the world and people of the novel. Eventually Gatsby reveals his rise from poverty to greatness to Nick. It’s revealed that Gatsby grew up almost dirt poor. His family had barely any money to its name. Even though this was the case Gatsby had great plans for himself within his mind and wouldn’t accept that this was his life. He eventually left home around the age of 16 to try and make more of his life. This is when he happened upon a very wealthy man who was in danger. Gatsby saved the man and the man repaid him by taking Gatsby under his wing and teaching him the ways of high society. Hope helped him strive for greatness and seek out the tools necessary to get him to where he wanted. Love was his goal and he made every decision around it. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Gatsby could feel the sense of hope that he had, it was infectious. His rise to fame brought others with him making him a sought after friend. His strong affinity for Daisy was his downfall. He obsessed about her and it ultimately led him to the grave. He had so much faith that she shared the same love for him that he did for her.
