The theme of the American dream is a reoccurring subject that is discussed in almost every English class that I have ever attended. There are many texts where the American dream is the central theme of the text. Some of these texts that show the American dream represent it as the opportunity to strive and keep going for success. One famous story that is known amongst many for representing the American dream is The Great Gatsby. The last paragraph of the writing talks about the green light across the light, an image that can show the American dream. A film that has personally changed my view of the American dream from the “common” view is the movie American Beauty. American Beauty contradicts the myth of Americans that strive in life and charge through their obstacles to try to be successful.
