The movie posters main concept is about the American Dream. The poster is very engaging with many of the themes of the book being played out in the poster. The poster has gold on the font and the sides which shows boldness,greed and wealth. There is a black background that represents emptiness or loss . Also the two men in shadows where one is gold and one is red with the gold representing greed and power which are deep down how some people try to act to put on a front but the red contrasts that with a persons true colours. In the shadows of the book you can see a side of the city in the yellow shade which is West Egg which is the place Gatsby lives in his enormous mansion.. Then there’s a part of the city that is a bit darker in the red character which represents the valley of ashes a poorer area of new york separating West From East egg. Two characters from the Valley of Ashes played a big role with Myrtle and George who were residents of the Valley. Myrtle was Tom’s mistress who he would pay for to live in a New York City apartment. Later on in the book Myrtle sees Tom driving Gatsby's yellow car. When her and George get into a fight she sees the car coming back so she runs on the road in an effort to stop it but gets ran over by Daisy and die’s. Tom uses George’s emotions to get George to hate Gatsby as he makes him think that Gatsby is the one who ran over Myrtle. This eventually leads to George killing Gatsby then himself right after. This part of the city was abused by Tom Buchanan who took money from the sector and destroyed a family of two resulting in both of their death’s all for his personal and selfish
