There is nothing better than a warm night, in the middle of the summer, an abundance of food and drinks flowing, entertainment and people everywhere you look. The roaring twenties, a time of electric parties and unimaginable fun. This is the American Dream. A time where people strived to be successful and have a high social status but wanted nothing more than to go out and party from sundown to sunrise. In the book “The Great Gatsby” by Scott Fitzgerald, this was the life everyone aspired to live. A life where at night everyone acted like they were invincible, but once the sun peeked it was back to putting in the work to achieve the high social status. This was a life where everyone had two sides. A side of parties and fun, and a side of guilt and desire to have everything imaginable and be in the high social class. The life Gatsby built for himself through his mansion very clearly examines the books' themes. Although Gatsby’s threw very fun parties at his mansion, he never seemed to fully enjoy them. This represents the internal life of the Roaring Twenties. It took Gatsby a long time to obtain all his possessions. Earlier in his life, he used to not have as much money. As he started to lose things in his life, he realized it was time to turn things around. This is where Gatsby started to have the desire of the American Dream and of being in a high social class. Although achieving the American Dream, having a good social status, and partying all night aren’t the most important parts of life now, they defiantly were in the Roaring Twenties. Gatsby’s life very vividly described these desires, but with Gatsby’s death at the end of the book, it is shown that these things should not control your
