While some believe that financial success is the ultimate goal, others argue that it’s not the only factor that contributes to the American Dream. Fitzgerald’s perspective on the American Dream reveals a corrupt and illusory nature that spreads throughout the lives of his characters. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter--tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther…And one fine morning-- So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”(Fitzgerald, Chapter 9, p.180).
