Hopes For The Future The Harlem Renaissance was a movement for black American artists in Harlem, a neighborhood in NYC. artists of color showcased their work not just in Harlem, but all over NYC. Larger, more popular artists like James Weldon Johnson helped shine light on the smaller, less known artists. Many of the pisces in The Harlem Renaissance showcased an important message and purpose throughout all the pisces in The Harlem Renaissance. The pieces in The Harlem Renaissance show the power of dreams and how they can bring a sense of purpose. For example, the song “Lift Every Voice and Sing” by James Weldon Johnson is about the challenges Black Americans have gone through and the challenges they still have. But it's also a song that is empowering to many people because it also shows a sense of hope and truth by showing how far Black Americans have come. In the painting it shows a new family in Harlem from the south, now able to have freedom to do what they like.
