The Help is a fiction based novel written by Kathryn Stockett. The book’s title is a rather appropriate name, given that the black folks that worked as servants and maids for the wealthy white families were called “the help”. While this book highlights the negativity of the upper class white people in 1962, there were some men and women who cared about the colored americans and didn’t judge them for their race. One of the lead characters in the story, Minny Jackson, is a maid for a woman named Celia Foote. Celia is a typical housewife, she never leaves the house unless she needs groceries and does not feel comfortable working hard outside of the home.
