As the Roman Empire was in the prime of its imperial reign over all the world powers; Koine Greek was the dominant language. Of course, many classical Greek city-states used different dialects of Greek, but the standard would’ve certainly been Koine Greek. As Rome conquered the Grecian Empire and held conquest to many other terrains; the politics, culture and commerce were influenced by the common Greek language. The word “Koine” is Greek for “common.” There was a particular period in our history books which we view early writings as Classical Greek. I’ve come to find that we deem the early writings of Plato and other Greek philosophers as “Classical”, but to them it was just Greek. We only refer to it in the classical sense because of the
