Amanda Lindhout born on June 12, 1981 in Alberta Canada did not have the picture-perfect childhood. Her mother, Lorinda, was beaten by boyfriends as Amanda listening laying on her top bunk. Her and her brother teamed up to dumpster dive when she was in fourth grade all in the efforts to quire the National Geographic’s. At 20, Lindhout set off for the journey of her lifetime. She had saved up enough to explore while being a cocktail waitress. She traveled through South America, Asia and Africa. Lindhout went on to publish ‘The House in the Sky’ as well as Brennan published ‘The Price of a Life.’ ‘The House in the Sky’ co-authored by Sara Corbett. The two worked together for threes creating the bestseller. Corbett met Lindhout in 2010 after she had been freed. A fellow writer and friend of Corbett’s introduced Lindhout to Corbett. The kidnappers aimed at this friend of Corbett named Robert Draper, so after Lindhout’s release she got back into contact with Draper. Lindhout expressed the interest to write a book, so Draper and Corbett flew to Canada. Corbett did not have a niche for hostage stories, but felt Lindhout’s was unusual plus Corbett saw videos of her earlier days on YouTube creating a soft spot. The book was created through numerous interviews and relied heavily on trust. The memories for Lindhout were very sharp and vivid, so the book writing was easier in that sense.
