Sandra Cisneros does a great job of reflecting on, and showing the dangers of many different prevalent social issues in “The House on Mango Street”, and arguably the biggest is child abuse. This novel truly reflects upon and exposes real life issues. Esperanza’s friend, Sally, is a major victim of this abuse as her father beats her repeatedly and she often comes to school “black and blue”.
