It’s very cliché to compare our modern society to that of the dystopian novels so popular today, but it’s the most precise and clear way to make the point that needs to be gotten across. If you compare our society to that of The Hunger Games novels, there are a lot of differences, but there are vast similarities as well. In the books, the elite part of the nation, filled with the wealthy, is known as the capitol. The capitol is where everyone with money lives. They only care about themselves, and this causes them to act irrationally sometimes. There’s a tremendous gap between the haves and the have nots in these stories and its very similar to that very same gap in our society today. While, yes, the way they put a stop to their social problems are a bit farfetched for us, there’s still some parallels that we could use to stop the widening income gap in our society. The best way would be to tax the rich further. Stopping the tax cuts for the rich is the first thing that needs to be done. We can’t just make big changes all of a sudden, but we need to start somewhere, taking away the tax cuts that are so often given to the rich is a good starting point. They don’t need these tax breaks, they’re rich! They can afford to make a little less money in exchange for bettering the lives of the poor in society. If anything, the poor are the ones who need the tax breaks. They’re the ones with little to no money, they can’t afford to be giving that much money to the government. They need the tax cuts so that they can keep more of their hard earned money for themselves. What we as a nation need to do it start small, start by taking a little bit from the rich and giving it to the poor. That little bit we would be taking from the rich, it’ll seem like pocket change to them, it’s nothing in their eyes. But to the poor, that’s a ton of money. That money could absolutely change their
