In Ray Bradbury and Suzanne Collins’s dystopian novels Fahrenheit 451 and The Hunger Games, their protagonists Guy Montag and Katniss Everdeen shared evident similarities. If closely looked at further, a couple of differences can be spotted as well. Although one may notice a few differences between the protagonists in Fahrenheit 451 and The Hunger Games, there are actually more similarities than one may realize, such as both protagonists conform to the dystopian society in the beginning but object to it in the end, both create alliances along the way, and they are both confused about their relationships. In the two dystopian novels Fahrenheit 451 and The Hunger Games, their protagonists Guy Montag and Katniss Everdeen do have a couple of differences.
Voyerism was evident in both The Hunger Games and The Truman show although they were both displayed differently. The Hunger Games was put on for the entertainment of the citizens in the Capitol. The participants of the Hunger Games were aware that they were the source of entertainment for not only the sponsors and the people in the Capitol but also the people in the district. While Katniss was in the arena both her and the other participants would attempt to make the viewers in particular the sponsors like them in order to collect tools to help them survive. If the Game Makers thought the Games became boring they will attempt to make it more entertaining, "You get people to like you."
The Hunger Games vs. The US The Hunger Games is an adventurous yet somewhat violent trilogy that shows another side of what American government could turn into. The US government is slightly different from Panem’s government, but has similar qualities. Both take place in the United States and have a President, but Panem’s President is president until they die. Where as the US President is president for four years and then there is an election.
The novel, 1984, can be most closely compared with the popular book and movie series, The Hunger Games. Overt comparisons between the two novels include their futuristic approach and the dystopian societies that emerged after periods of war. Additionally, both novels highlight poverty as a highly effective method of control. Building on that method of control, both novels have a strict hierarchy of society used to control the masses.
Responsibility is key to survival in The Hunger Games because you must be responsible and careful before making a decision that depends on your life. “The price of greatness is responsibility.” (Winston Churchill) In The Hunger Games, two tributes, one male and one female under the age of eighteen, must leave their district to go and compete in The Hunger Games. While in the games all twenty-four tributes must fight to the death to entertain their Capital city.
Discourse involved in the study of child soldiers is often centered around debates regarding issues of culpability and locating driving forces behind the recruitment of child soldiers. Behind the conflict, bloodshed, and debate there are often figures who benefit from sustaining conflicts for their own gain on the backs of these children who are indoctrinated into war efforts; a type of hidden wealth in their shadowed and moraless economy and who often continue to do so without any repercussions. The Hunger Games, despite being fictional, manages to portray the effects and scope of the issue of war profiteers who gain from these children, whether that be entertainment, power, or money. As state before The Hunger Games, at least its first book, is not about child soldiers.
The famous Roman orator and senator Publius Tacitus once wrote that “the more the laws, the more corrupt the government.” A corrupt system always tries to put restrictions and create laws in order to ensure that their power as an authority is not in danger of being disregarded. In Suzanne Collins’ renowned novel The Hunger Games, the Capitol is a corrupt system in Panem because it abuses its powers to control the citizens. It does so by forcing restrictions on the freedom of the people, favoring the rich and imposing harsh punishments.
There are several themes in the book, each one has a significant meaning to the storyline. The first symbol that describes the theme of abuse of power is government control. The reason that they hold the Hunger Games is because it is a dystopian society and most of the districts are poor and the capitol likes it because it keeps them entertained just because they believe that they are superior to everyone else who lives outside the capitol. To explain this more into detail, the government controls all the districts and all the districts have to follow the rules or else there is a serious punishment.
Peeta Mellark, one of the main characters in the book The Hunger Games, once said, “ My nightmares are usually about losing you. But I am okay once I realise your here.” The novelis about two teens from each district in the country Panem being selected to be in the Hunger Games, a reality TV show that requires them to fight to the death. Over the course of the novel, the two main characters, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, develop romantic feelings for each other.
“You see an elderly person, and you want to congratulate them on their longevity, ask the secret of survival. ”(Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games). This line from Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games reflects on how life is in the world of Panem. The fact that people commend elders for surviving so long definitely says something about the true colors of the book. Some may tell you that this book centers on how corruptness in the government is bad, that it is a story of rebellion against those higher than you,or even that it is about the great flexibility and strength of teenage love, but this cannot be the case.
Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution involving natural selection and the survival of the fittest links to The Hunger Games by Susan Collins. Darwin’s idea of the natural selection is the way how species adopt to the environment. Charlotte wood’s ‘Natural way of things’, and Susan Collins ‘The Hunger Games’, depicts Darwin’s idea of natural selection through people adopting with unknown environment’s in order to survive. Natural selection is the adoption of species with the environment. Where Darwin notes (1817, pg.1) “great power of adopting his habits to new conditions of life.
In 1984, a dystopian novel written by George Orwell, proles are represented as being generally incompetent in the ability to think and rebel against their stolen rights. However, as the story progresses, Winston comes to a realization that proles are the only ones with the character of human beings and the strength to gain consciousness to overthrow the party. Through this characterization of the proles, Orwell satirizes the detrimental effects of Stalin’s totalitarian government in employing total control and perpetual surveillance of the people in USSR to maintain an established hierarchy. The nature of how the system views the proles is clearly visible through the treatment and description of the proles in the eyes of Winston.
Action, romance and science fiction are all common movie genres. Dystopian Future is a new rising genre in the era where various genres overflow. It is a compound word of dystopia and future, dystopia which is the antonym of utopia means not-good place, and future means a tense sets in the future. Mainly dystopian future story is about, how the characters survive when many environmental disasters are given in unideal place. These stories could be the mirror of our society and they might criticize present corruption of the world.
The Hunger Games trilogy revolves around universal dystopian themes such as :oppression, rebellion, class tension as well as appearance vs. reality ," Collins creates the world that on one hand seems quite improbable and extreme, but on the other, vividly reflects some specific issues in a real world, like social inequalities, ignorance and passivity of the people" (Macanić 7). Oppression is perhaps the most common and prevalent dystopian theme as it serves as a warning against a highly probable dark future through shedding light on the dark side of contemporary trends such as advanced technology and reality TV-shows .The Capitol 's oppression operates on two levels; districts and individuals. The districts in general and districts 11 and 12 in particular have suffered great injustices at the ruthless hands of the Capitol ; however, there is no greater injustice than The Hunger Games themselves not only are the people of Panem forced to surrender their children as tributes for the Capitol 's citizens viewing pleasure for a crime they had no hand in committing ,but they are also forced to watch helplessly as their children are killed in the most brutal of manners .In Catching Fire (2009) , President Snow decrees that " the male and female tributes will be reaped from their existing pool of victors" in order to get rid of Katniss once and for all ,and to further assert the Capitol 's dominance and quell any thoughts of rebellion(172).
Most movies I like best is The Hunger Games. The film tells the story of a girl named Katniss Everdeen from District 12 who are good at hunting with bow and arrow and dare replace her sister, Prim in the Hunger Games Games. Hunger Games known game was terrible, because of the 24 participants leaving only 1 person who will live. In the same district, paired with Katniss Peeta. Peeta is a seller of bread.
