The Hunger Games vs. The US The Hunger Games is an adventurous yet somewhat violent trilogy that shows another side of what American government could turn into. The US government is slightly different from Panem’s government, but has similar qualities. Both take place in the United States and have a President, but Panem’s President is president until they die. Where as the US President is president for four years and then there is an election. Panem’s government is a totalitarian government, which means one wants to control the entire population. President Snow effectively rules over all of Panem and regulates what sector gets what. The president or ruler over Panem is not elected, but chosen by representatives. The representatives then choose a leader to lead all of them. This in turn lead to mass destruction and caused the government to form Panem and turn to totalitarian. This then made the government hold the annual Hunger Games to remind people of the great rebellion and to continue growing the seed of doubt that whoever wants to try to overthrow the Capital, they will fail immensely. Even their punishments for stealing or hunting illegally is harsh and very violent. The US however, is tremendously less violent than Panem in the traditions and their punishments. We have remembrance days where we remember those who has served our country and died while doing so. Whether they may be a Veteran from the military or a police officer who died in the line of fire, we keep it calm and happy. Our punishment system is fairly violent but with good reason. It all depends on whether or not the crime they commited is worth jail time or just a fine. The US keeps it on the down low and does not put children in a ring to run around and kill each
