The Hunger Games is one of the most popular modern adventure novels, with high-paced action packed plot and charismatic characters. The Hunger Games is a Trilogy, with three novels: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay released in 2008, 2009 and 2010 respectively. Popularity of the books led to creation of the full-scale movies. Each movie represented a part of the trilogy, aside from the Mockingjay, which was divided into two separate parts with the second one expected to be released in November of 2015. This research paper will be focusing primarily on The Hunger Games – first and original book by Suzanne Collins as well as the first movie, the Hunger Games, released in 2012. Civilization was organized and has Capitol as a main wealthy area and poorer Districts that are expected to provide Capitol with necessary goods. After thirteenth district rioted against Capitol, as a punishment, each district had to provide a boy and a girl each year based on the results of the lottery. The children would fight in a specially constructed arena, where only one was allowed to survive. Katniss Everdeen was sixteen years old when she volunteered to participate in Hunger Games instead of her younger sister. She was also the main narrator of the story (Thompson, 2013). Peeta Mellark, a twelve-year-old boy, who was in love with Katniss, joined her in the Hunger Games. Later Katniss used their romantic feelings to gain favors from sponsors, who could assist competitors with gifts. Rules of the games were changed to allow two people from the same district win in case they work together as a team. Highest point of the plot was reached when Katniss and Peeta decides to eat poisonous berries after the rule was reversed and they had to fight each other.
