The idea of the Good Neighbor came about when President Hoover took a trip to Latin American. On the trip, he announced that America’s intentions are true and he’d hope to maintain a cordial relationship not only with the government but also the relation of good neighbors. The main purpose of the Good Neighbor Policy was to mend the damaged relationships with Latin America, especially after they had criticized The Coolidge Administration during the Sixth Pan American Conference in Havana in 1928 for the armed interventions in Haiti and Nicaragua. It was highly important for the United States to make an effort to repair the damage relationship between the Latin American countries, and to prevent other strong-willed countries from taking control
