On September 26,1820, Daniel Boone died. He helped blaze a trail through the Cumberland Gap. The trail he blazed was called the Wilderness Road. The importance of this trail is because it became the route of 70,000 people to Kentucky. The Wilderness Road was important for it to be wide because it had to be wide enough for the wagons and animals to get through the trail.

Thoughout its existence, the Santa Fe Trail provided more then just trade from Missioury to the far southern reaches of the western lands of the United States. From 1821-1846, the Santa Fe Trail was an internatial road for many diverse people looking for something new. This trail leads through Kansas into Colorado, to La Junta Colorado. Thousands of settlers used the trail to travel west in search of new land and opportunities. The crossing was not easy; only the most determined of settlers journeyed to make it. In 1811, the National Road known as Cumberland Road was built to reach Western settlements, because they needed a road to ship farm products that connect East and West. The National Road passed thousand of wagons and coaches. John F. Stover states in American Railroads, “The rich agricultural production of the country, the small but expanding factories of eastern cities, and the largely untapped natural resources of the nation-all of these called for improvements in transport. ”(Stover1)
Alongside the route, there were various things or experiences that the migrants experienced. Basically, there were numerous accidents that they encountered for instance death as a result of being run over by wagons. Another one was accidents due to gunshots from half-cocked pistols in their wagons or from various individuals who at times used to fool around with guns. Conversely, the migrants contracted various ailments majorly yellow fever Oregon fever. At least two-thirds of the migrants lost their lives due to this quick killing disease.
