Environment and Development There were many new world crops for the Spanish to cultivate, one being maize. This became a staple in their society. A century after Columbus had crossed the ocean; New Spain had become a strong empire. The access to furs had a strong influence on the New French way of life.
The starting of America flourished with the Native Americans guidance. Even if people agree or not, the Natives had a huge impact on the development of America. ¨Of Plymouth Plantation” and “The Constitution of the Iroquois Nations” are great examples to conclude this. So, whether it was learning where to hunt or becoming inspired by another nation’s constitution, every little event becomes stored in the foundation of the America we know today.
The negative effect was the indigenous people suffered from disease and slavery. For the benefit, the trade helped with technology. America brought potatoes to Europe. Potatoes were such an advantage since potatoes can grow up to 40 inches. Potatoes are able to feed more people, causing it to make the population grow.
Following their relocation, Native Americans had to adjust to a warmer climate and less fertile land to grow their crops on. The crops were the main source of the food for these Native Americans and they struggled for many years after with hunger problems. As for their religion, they felt torn apart from it because they were not on their sacred land. After the Americans got to their new territory, the Americans left. They didn’t give the Native Americans any provisions to help them.
From colonial times until the end of the Indian Wars in 1890, the people in America went through a series of unfair and unfortunate events. Mainly for the Indians which are also called the first peoples. These events could have been handled with much more consideration for the Indians. There are many times when the Americans went too far including the Removal Act of 1830, the Reservation System, and the Act for the Government and Protection of Indians.
The progression that we as the privileged face has caused the regression of the unprivileged. The Age of Exploration was a time period of laying the stepping stones to progression. However, we were given the advantage to define the word progression. The ignorance that we have put forth in realizing the different definitions of progression is depicted in Ishmael, “‘... the Plain Indians had been agriculturalists for centuries. As soon as horses became readily available, they abandoned agriculture and resumed the hunting-gathering life’”(Quinn 217).
I would argue that Native Americans were brutally massacred due to ethnocentrism. The Dominant group, white people, destroyed and ripped away multiple cultures, languages, and traditions from the native people. The dominant group clearly thought themselves of God’s gift to the world; they believed that they were the standard that all other ethnicities and races should aspire to be. Therefore, they chose to coerce the Native people into forgetting their culture so, they could force the dominant culture on to them. This was a cultural massacre, but this was not the only massacre the dominant group committed, even if they did not know about it.
During the late 15th and early 16th centuries, eExplorers from Europe had made vast advancements on traveling methods and shipbuilding and had new methods to travel the world. Due to needs for faster trade routes or access to new markets, most powers, starting with Portugal, had started sending Explorers to find different ways to trade and navigate. This would eventually lead them to the New World where they would meet people of different culture. Explorers during this period have many positive and negative effects on the natives. Europeans indirectly killed off native with diseases, enslaved natives with cruel slave methods, and tried to completely erase the native cultures in place of the typical European cultures and religion.
Native Americans flourished in North America, but over time white settlers came and started invading their territory. Native Americans were constantly being thrown and pushed off their land. Sorrowfully this continued as the Americans looked for new opportunities and land in the West. When the whites came to the west, it changed the Native American’s lives forever. The Native Americans had to adapt to the whites, which was difficult for them.
The American Revolution lasted six years and the impacts of it were everlasting(Schultz, 2010). The effects were felt by every group of people in North America and many worldwide. Even though George Washington had all of his troops vaccinated against smallpox, the colonists were not so fortunate and as a results some estimates are that as many as one hundred and thirty thousand people died from this dreaded disease. This loss of life combined with the divisions among the colonies into those loyal to Britain and those who wanted freedom would forever change the way of life for the colonists.
Throughout the 19th century Native Americans were treated far less than respectful by the United States’ government. This was the time when the United States wanted to expand and grow rapidly as a land, and to achieve this goal, the Native Americans were “pushed” westward. It was a memorable and tricky time in the Natives’ history, and the US government made many treatments with the Native Americans, making big changes on the Indian nation. Native Americans wanted to live peacefully with the white men, but the result of treatments and agreements was not quite peaceful. This precedent of mistreatment of minorities began with Andrew Jackson’s indian removal policies to the tribes of Oklahoma (specifically the Cherokee indians) in 1829 because of the lack of respect given to the indians during the removal laws.
In the epic poem The Iliad by Homer, The Iliad’s premise surrounds Achilles anger, the Trojan war, and the god’s influence on it all. Homer uses literary devices to convey the glory and/or horror of war. Through the use of graphic imagery and sympathetic backstory Homer exemplifies the theme of the horror of war. Homer writes about the horror and gore and battle using graphic imagery, bringing out the worst in every man.
Native Americans Native Americans are very different from other tribes. They eat, live, dress and do many things differently. The things I’m going to be talking about in my interesting paper is What they eat? What they wear? Where they live?
While the colonization of the America’s was negative for many reasons such as the spread of illnesses, and the forcing of religion upon natives, it was also beneficial to the Native’s because it allowed them to have better weapons and to have different foods and goods in their lives. The Europeans exposed the Natives to many new diseases once they colonized the new areas they discovered. The Europeans greatly impacted the family life and religion of the inhabitants of the areas they found. There was also a lot of exchange going on during the conquest of the Americas because the Natives were excited by the new gadgets they had never seen before that the Europeans brought over.
