Despite my passion for athletics, I have spent the majority of my high school career involved in show choir. I participate in the Executive Session at Sauk Prairie High School. Show choir incorporates training under professional choreographers, undergoing numerous voice lessons, and traveling the country for competitions. This self-disciplinary activity pushes me to work hard and strive for perfectionism while taking leadership roles in a professional environment. Furthermore, show choir allows me to impact others through my performance and to take risks.
On a hot game day in Athens Georgia where is the most likely place you can find Carine? Marching with the Redcoat band of course! Throughout High School my dream was to one-day march with the famous Redcoat Band. All I wanted was to wear the striking black hat with the arches and proudly display the Georgia G on my back.
Music is more than that it’s something beautiful produced based on the musicians. For example when we play in class when you feel the emotion and the feeling of playing it’s just so wonderful. Music is the way kids and people show their emotions although even on a bad day we try to play well because we do not want to be the big mess up in class. Music to me is the beginning of my passion. As students, we engage in learning through a more interactive and exciting learning experience.
I play six instruments including Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Clarinet, Mellophone, and Piano, and I sing in my Church Choir as well. I have the honor of being principal chair on Alto Saxophone in Symphonic Band, as well as a featured soloist in the 12 O’Clock Big Band. I have applied for student leadership in Marching Band next year as well. Athletics at Central Dauphin have taught me important skills of teamwork, sportsmanship, and camaraderie. At Marcus High School, I stayed involved heavily with band and drumline. These extracurriculars demanded immense time management and a sharp level of focus. During sophomore, junior and senior years, I was able to join the student leadership corps and become the leader of the Snareline, an instrument that requires high concentration in comparison to the rest of the band. I was tasked with making sure the incoming students understood their music, and if unable, I taught them. This position led me to become an understanding leader with the desire for greatness.

I began listening to a variety of music and explored different interests in school and my community. I decided to enroll in the most meaningful and enjoyable class of my entire high school career: The History of Rock and Roll. This is where I was first introduced to countless artists and genres, from the roots of the Mississippi Delta Blues, all the way to Liverpool to meet my most favorite band, The Beatles. Learning a simple blues scale lead to the discovery of my passion for playing various kinds of music, but it has also given me a tremendous sense of personal and professional accomplishment.
Marching band not only accepts all eccentricities, but also nurtures them to achieve its collective goal of creating a perfect, emotional show. Every member has a different background. Some love chemistry, others love cooking, but the hard earned fruition of every individual in the band is the same: passion honed into skill. Marching band is a tight knit community, accepting of outsiders, driven by a purpose. Each member has their own responsibilities and duties, but the cohesive force of music is a driving and unifying feature.
I meet ambassadors from around the world, and I was able to speak with amazing musicians and performers. While in Hawaii, I snorkeled in Hanauma Bay, hiked Diamond Head volcano, and visited Pearl Harbor. I will never forget the friendships that I forged all because of music. I began as a naïve middle schooler and transformed myself into a confident performer and student. I now carry a sense of pride because I finally completed my dream.
Concert 2 is one of the lowest bands in the program. When I first entered the program, I had wanted to quit. However, after a while, I grew to really enjoy band. I started practicing more and put in more effort with what I did. I was first chair in concert 2, which is the principal player.

Attending my first jazz concert was an unforgettable experience of great live instrumental music. The concert was entertaining and a very educational experience of this course. As a student in this course with little musical education, I never appreciated instrumentals, until the SDSU Jazz Concert. This concert was a really enjoyable experience with the balance of all the instruments. I really enjoyed the experience and the knowledge of music I gained from the concert.

Giving children education in music as young as possible can help them to have the ability to be successful in learning language.
