Soldier's Heart Charley and the soldiers experienced bad weather and food situations. the clothing was horrible on side had cloths and one had little bits and pieces of clothing most wore different uniforms. plus in the battles the confederation would hide in the trees and land because they know the land better than the union. the union camps built a hut and they weren't that good either they had no spot for a chimney so the smoke built up so charley dug a hole and put the fire in a trench/ditch and the fire went out. in the book charly also traded with the rebels. the rebels didn't have a lot of food but they had some better stuff then the union they had tobacco and other stuff. the union got more rations than the confederates because they …show more content…
it told how the trip was there and how they stopped at towns to show other people what they were doing etc. they it told about a battle named Bull Run and it told that they didn't run away they simply just stood back up and walked in line as they retreated into the trees and in the morning they went back out there and fought some more and they went and found out that the rebels left at nighttime or early morning, it also showed how scared they were by saying that most of the soldiers peed themselves. then it showed that they didn't fight for a long time because they were in winter and it was to cold to fight. no life in the army was not what he expected and he joined at a very young age he was supposed to be 18 but was like 15 or so and he watched many people die or get sick just like he did it wasn't a deathly ill kind of sick but he still got sick he got diarrhea and had to carry a shovel for the march to another battle. he also thought that the war was going to be over in like a month or so well everyone thought it was going to be a big battle and that was it each side thought the other side was going to lay down and give up after a big battle. well it didn't work that way it lasted a couple of years and the union side won with many
