Constitution day is about celebrating the constitution and what it stands for. That does not just mean what we interpret it to be now. It means what the founders meant when they forged this document. George Washington said in his farewell address, “interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe, entangle our peace and prosperity in the toils of European ambition, rival-ship, interest, humor, or caprice.” This is not what we would think of today, a so called “America first” mindset. Today we would symbolize the constitution with freedom and diversity. Maybe not a thoughts, if you ask some people, but of race and culture. That is what the Constitution stands for to the people alive today, it means that there is hope for a better tomorrow.He goes on to state, “Much pains will be taken, many artifices employed to weakening your minds the conviction of this truth; as this is the point in your political fortress against which the batteries of internal and external enemies will be most constantly and actively (though often covertly and insidiously) directed, it is of infinite moment that you should properly estimate the immense value of your national union to your collective and individual happiness.” Constitution day is not only about freedom and prosperity, in the the combined past-present form of the constitution, but about individual prosperity over national. …show more content…
