Introduction
The construction industry holds a great propensity to affect the environment, perhaps more so than other industries, frequently in beneficial ways, but often in the most detrimental and damaging ways. Hip Hing has obtained different types of certificates, for instance, the Environmental Management System ISO 14001 : 2004 Standard. (Hip Hing 2015) ISO 14001 standard aims to help organizations to enhance environmental capability through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste, gaining a competitive advantage and the trust of stakeholders. The standard requires the holder to consider the overall potential environmental impacts relevant to its operations, which includes air, water, noise pollution, waste management, soil contamination and energy consumption. Despite ISO 14001 is rather basic and common, it is essential in leading the Company to success in environmental management. All of the construction sites of Hip Hing are assessed for environmental impacts in accordance with this international standard. It is believed that ISO 14001 has helped Hip Hing to demonstrate compliance with current and future statutory and regulatory requirements, achieve strategic business objectives by embedding environmental issues into business management model and motivate improvement in environmental performance of subcontractors by integrating them into Hip Hing’s business and analytical
