Everywhere I looked, people were trapped in this black hole to fit into a certain standard. No one agreed with my opinion and said that “it is just how life is” and I should let things be the way it is supposed to. Soon after, my friend recommended me this book called ‘The Hunger Games’. It was about a teenage girl named Katniss Everdeen that started a rebellion against the President as she disagreed with his way of ruling their nation. Her effort to break tradition and go against the culture of their nation inspired and resonated with me. Fictional stories inspire people, give them hope, and sparks the creativity in them. Katniss Everdeen gave me inspiration with her fighting spirit and her persisting nature. She taught me on never giving up, how to solve my problems in creative ways and how important family is. Fictional stories allow people to think in ways that are out of the ordinary as it gives situations that do not normally happen in the real world. Many inventions were prompted by fictional movies or books and are now coming to life. For example, the design of Disneyland was based on fairytales. People took the effort to bring these movies and stories to life by using their imagination. This could not be done without reading fictional books that encouraged their creativity to create this magical land that is loved by millions around the world. Another example as to the importance of reading fiction is that it broadens our imagination. Why has our world developed so rapidly with advancing technology and the invention of computers? The reason for it is that imagination sparks imagination. Our minds are stretched to the exposure of others’ originality.
