Why College Isn’t Worth It Attending college is something that many High School students look forward to as a buffer or a way to make the transition into adulthood easier, but a rising question has people considering: Is going to college really worth it? While some describe college as their best years, it leaves most attendees in debt and with a degree they may never use. Between tuition fees, traveling, housing, food, and textbooks, all college students are bound to owe at least a few thousand.
There are so many resources on campus that can help you in about anything you can
I recently read an essay called “Should Everyone Go to College?” by Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill who write a great argument stating that going to college should depend on the situation instead of stating that everyone should go to college. Stephanie and Isabel go over the rate of return on education through graphs and statistics that show that those that go to college are often time more successful than those that go straight into a career. However, going to college should be dependent on the chosen career path more than anything else because some career paths do not require a college education. Also, the rate of return is a big thing to think about before committing to going to college because paying for college to go into a career that
Which was a more serious threat to world peace: the Berlin crisis of 1961 or the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962? (10) In the early 1960s the fragile relationship between the capitalist US and the communist USSR threatened to break down at any moment and be the cause of a third World War; something no country wanted. By 1961 tensions were high between the communist East Berlin that was ruled by Russia and the capitalist West Berlin.
College: Worth the Cost Sending a kid off to college is a terrifying and joyful thing for parents from what I have heard personally. Some parents are horrified at the thought of their teen living without supervision and being able to come and go as they please. Partying at sorority or fraternity houses is all parents think college consist of. It 's a place to learn and grow as an individual, a place of hope for a fresh start.
In his article “3 Reasons College Still Matters” author Andrew Delbanco attempts to convince his audience the reasons college is still important in order to obtain a high education, in this case three main reasons. He discusses many other’s points of view on college and why people think college is irrelevant to ones future career. People largely had similar reasons to why college is not important; the people who do not attend college mostly say that college is a waste of valuable time and or resources. Delbanco does indeed address these assumptions to why people think college is not important. His argument is aimed towards an audience of people that may consist of those like high school graduates looking to further their education in college
I have struggled to keep my school work a priority as I need to balance it with my part-time work and with the things I like to do to keep my life as normal as possible (like cheerleading and spending time with my friends). I am very honored and thankful to be the first the person in my family to attend college fall of 2016. As I strive to end my senior year positive, I always remember to tell my younger siblings to try as hard as they can in school, because “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I’ve decided that I would like to get my degree in social work, specifically working with children. Growing I’ve been around kids that are unhappy with thier home, but couldn’t do anything about it.
Returning to college has been an exciting and terrifying decision for me. My husband has encouraged me for 1-2 years, but my fear of failure overwhelmed me and kept me from pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree. I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to pursue. I’m now on this journey and ready for whatever it is that God has planned for me. I have worked hard encouraged my three kids as they transitioned their way through elementary school through middle school and on to high school and graduation.
Something such as returning back to school was long gone and in my past goals. After a couple of years I never thought I would end up going back to school since everything that I wanted was going good and according to plan. However sometimes we are faced with tough situations where we must find other resources in order to improve and better ourselves. Going back to school was one of the most important and wise decisions that I have ever made. Finding well-qualified candidates for a job or career nowadays is a challenge, especially in the field that I am currently in; law enforcement.
Rivera. Session1.Journal What made me want to go back to school was that I didn 't have anything else going for me after high school. I had two beautiful children in the process. I couldn 't find a job or anything it was hard on my own.
Sadly, when people like me come to meet people like the social work adviser, people are easily put down. Sometimes we are lucky enough to have the courage to seek a higher education, and when facing situations like the one I went through, it is easy to believe that we cannot succeed, especially when we grow up in communities that follow the social norm of placing education as a secondary
It has taken many years for people in society to break out of the norms and expectations of how to grow up and live in the world. A huge factor in this “revolution”: attending college. Whether it is taking a gap year to discover the world and the waiting opportunities, or simply running with it all after high school to work, attending college isn’t considered a given anymore. Now not all cases are the same for every person, therefore they can only decide what is the best path for them after high school. Still, the benefits of a being a college graduate will never be diminished.
My passion for helping and supporting those whose economic and financial standings have hindered their growth in our society, has driven me towards social work. I feel I have exhausted every possible avenue in my current degree field. Pursuing a master’s in Social Work, will give me the diversity that I need, while aiding me in bringing my dreams of working more in depth with clients, by helping assist them with their individual needs and issues to reality. The Social work field also offers versatility which allows me to work in many dimensions, such as clinical, case management, and many other composites which enables me to help every population. Becoming a social worker gives me other benchmarks in which I can use to evaluate programs,
Going back to school at my age was a big decision, one that I didn’t make overnight. I knew that trying to go back to school while raising my grandchildren was not going to be an easy task, but I knew this had to be done. My current job does not pay much money and the money I receive from Social Services is inadequate, so my solution is to go to school to get better job. The first semester has been by far the most challenging thing I have ever faced this year. One of those challenges is making back and forth from to class while trying to work.
I am confident that the skills that I will gain from completing a social work master’s degree will help me collaborate with people in need and aid sustainable growth in their lives. My first introduction to social work as a profession came while living on a small
