In the short stories “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury and “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, both main characters are great, experienced and risky hunters. Travis from “A Sound of Thunder” takes people through a time machine back in time to hunt dinosaurs. General Zaroff from “The Most Dangerous Game” has found a new interest instead of hunting animals, and he now hunts people. Both of these stories involve hunting out of the ordinary things and show why each character chooses to do so. Although Travis and General Zaroff are both great, experienced hunters, they differ in the game they hunt, their attitudes towards others, and their motivation for shooting people.
In the short story, “A sound of Thunder”, Ray Bradbury used figurative language to make a bigger impact on the story. When Eckels goes into the office he sees and hears, “... A sound like a gigantic bonfire burning all of Time, all the years and all the parchment calendars- all the hours piled high and set aflame.” The author, Ray Bradbury, wanted his audience to have a specific image set in the audience’s head. By using a simile he help the reader imagine how Eckle’s is going to get to the past.
I found the idea of the slightest change in the past might drastically change the future, very interesting. In the story, Eckels uses a company’s time machine to go back to a time when dinosaurs roamed. While there, he made a small mistake that caused big consequences. Eckels’ death in the end made me feel bad because it was a mistake caused by fear. The mistake seemed like just a small indent at the time, but proved to have a life changing effect on the outcome of Eckels’ present day life.
Critical Essay: The Sound of Thunder vs Nethergrave The Sound of Thunder by Bradbury and the Nethergrave by Skurzynski were to different stories written by two outstanding authors. Both books go into depth about how scientific technology have so much influence in changing lives of individuals and the people around them. These to compelling stories are different but yet so some similarities that will keep you interested. In the Sound of Thunder, we are introduced to a guy name Eckels who has to deal with the consequences which he brought on himself when he decided to try a new technological that he wasn’t really ready for.
The theme of Ray Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder" is enhanced by his use of foreshadowing throughout the story. The story follows a man named Eckles on his journey to the past on a hunt for a real dinosaur. As the events in the past unfold, Eckles ultimately alters the future forever by taking a small step off the Path. The path is there to make sure the time travelers do not affect the future. Unfortunately, Eckles learns the true consequences of his actions when he returns to a changed future.
As the story continues, Eckels thinks he can handle this huge dinosaur, but as he goes on with his journey, he gets more and more scared. The story says, “Don’t run, “ said Lesperance. “Turn around. Hide in the Machine” (“A Sound of Thunder 76”). Then, it goes on and says, “Eckels!”
In Ray Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder" and Gloria Skurzynski's "Nethergrave," both authors tour conceptions of time travel and its consequences. However, upon closer examination, it becomes clear that "A Sound of Thunder" is the superior of the two texts due to its well-developed characters, complex plot, and effective writing style. One reason for this is the deeper level of character development present in "A Sound of Thunder. " The protagonist, Eckels, is depicted as a, nervous, indecisive, brave, curious and courageous beyond measure, but he is far from admirable because his of his selfish and impulsive ways, who's fear of the unknown leads him to make a fateful mistake. This internal conflict adds layers to his character and makes him more relatable to the reader.

Everything Matters The style that Ray Bradbury uses in his short story “A Sound of Thunder” is very eerie. The story is about a guy named Eckel who wants to travel back in time and kill a tyrannosaurus rex. He went to the safari place and handed them the $10,000 check, then the tour guide and his assistant got in the time machine with Eckel and another young man. They travel to where they needed to be and when the time came to shoot, Eckel backed out and went walking off the path, he killed a butterfly when he stepped down.

In A Sound of Thunder, there are many instances of suspenseful foreshadowing.
When reading the story “A Sound of Thunder”, it was convincing but there was a lack of scientific evidence to prove him correct. Although the claim was backed, it could have been supported completely if he included the other few components that would’ve helped to prove the claim ultimately. These left out key factors were Einstein’s theory of relativity, and time dilation. Ray Bradbury’s “A Sound of Thunder” portrays the realistic aspects of his story believably to an extent because he only included one scientific aspect, the butterfly effect The only scientific aspect Bradbury included in the story, was the butterfly effect.
Eckels learns a very big lesson that ends his life tragically at the end of the story. II. It begins and ends in the year 2055 at a time travel hunting business, however, the majority of the story takes place millions of years before, during the time of the dinosaurs. Throughout the story, the setting sets the tone, motivates the characters actions, and leads to the theme.
The storyline tries to make us to think about what is going in the story. The characters need to come up with how they are going to take down the dinosaur. Time traveling can affect many of the characters in certain ways. For example, In Sound of Thunder Eckels accidentally falls off the path which affects the timeline.
