Introverts And Online Education Essay

For my essay I am choosing the topic of introverts and online education. This topic is relevant for both my area of study, and my professional field. I am an introvert, which does not infer shyness or timidness. It means that I do not gain as much insight into learning topics when in a group as I would in private. I value group discussions and the unique perspective that people provide, I use those insights along with my own to enhance my work both scholastically and professionally when I am alone.

When you are thinking of signing up for an online education, it is natural to perform a self analysis to determine if you have the skills, and support needed to be successful. Online education represents a lack of social interaction and a higher demand for self-discipline than an 'in person ' education. I believe an introvert is more suited for an online education than an extrovert.

Convenience seems to be one of the largest selling points of an online education. Specifically referring to aspects such as completing course work at any time of day, not having to go into a physical classroom, and having the comfort of your …show more content…

Obtaining new skills and ideas seems the more attractive reason for the pursuit. However, more than learning something 'as advertised ', you can learn many things you do not expect in solitude. Cain (2012) wrote “Solitude can be a catalyst to innovation“ (p. 74). Since introverts can enjoy longer periods of solitary work, I would posit that innovation would come easier than to extroverts in that situation. In my opinion, new ideas and new methods of doing things seems a far more valuable return on the investment of time into online
