Teachers are motivated when their reward is related or linked to their performance or contribution, and when it is perceived as fair and equitable. It is widely recognized that the motivations residing behind teacher’s action profoundly shape the nature and quality of those actions and their effects on young people. A de-motivated teacher is always absent from duty, arrive late at place of work, ineffective in class, hence cannot deliver up to expectation.
He or she has low morale and as such may seek alternative employment opportunity, terminate employment and/or engage in corrupt practices. It is the student who suffers the end result of this behavior of the teacher as they get all kind of punishment from such teachers. At the end of the day, the student cannot perform well in the final examination which affects their career choice for the future and the society at large (Bullough et al., 2011; Ngiri, 2013).
