The author means that our personal and professional reputations are based and how the public perceives us. The public sees our daily actions and they see how we interactions with other people. We are always around people while living our normal lives or while we are at work. The decisions we make in from other people will help them determines our reputation. It might be a good reputation, a responsible, caring person always willing to do the right doing, or it could see us as unreliable.
We all have our own values that we have developed throughout the course of our lives. Our family, friends and the experiences we have had all contribute to our sense of who we are and how we view the world. We need to be aware of our own personal values and be prepared to adopt them to our professional value. Values can influence many of the judgments we make as well as have an impact on the support we give.
It is important that you develop an awareness of what you value, as these values will be important in forming a better relationship with co–workers. Knowing your own values can help you work effectively to resolve conflicts and support the organization’s philosophy of care appropriately.
