As we live in a society where everyone is increasingly all about themselves, people are constantly searching for a purpose. As Christians, we can know our purpose if we dig a little bit into God’s special revelation: the Bible. Colossians 1:16 (Msg) says, “For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible… everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him.” This verse shows us that our purpose is greater than ourselves, it is of God. God made everything with an eternal purpose in mind. It is hard for us to wrap our minds around this, but his plan is greater than we can ever imagine. 2 Corinthians 2:18b (TLB) says, “And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him.” This could mean a lot of things, but for me, it tells me that when I get into his word, I absorb the information, and the Spirit of the Lord works within me. I have found trouble staying consistent in reading the Bible. I always come up with excuses like, “I’m too tired,” or, “I already went to church today.” These excuses would really not be a problem if I really wanted it. But now, I really want it. I am sick of being a lazy Christian. From now on, I won’t wake up at 7:00. I will wake up at 6:45 and dedicate that time to reading the word. I will read his word and then try to live it out as I go throughout my day. Rick Warren, in The Purpose Driven Life, says, “God doesn’t want his love and purposes kept a secret. Once we know the truth, he expects us to share it with others.” Since I am blessed with knowing the truth about God and his purpose for our lives. One way I can do this is through a weekly Bible Study with my friends and my father. Every once in a while, we go out and pray for people that God highlights for us. I think that this is a stepping stone for the greater things he has in mind for us. We should do this more often, and maybe instead of it taking the place of one of our Bible Study nights, we can set it as a different night so we can have both in the same week. This way, we can still be learning more and more so when we go out there we can go with confidence and assurance that God will show us what to
