What should a college or university do when a racial issue occurs on campus? I use the word "when" because let 's face it racial tension nowadays is a thing that has been happening so often that it is expected to happen. Colleges are having racial problems like in Duke, had a fraternity, The Kappa Sigma, hosting a party with students wearing Asian-style clothing and mimicking stereotypical Asian accents. Campuses could counter these types of things by altering the students ' views and showing their support in the diversity of their college, like a multicultural event of some kind. We don 't have to stand for racism, we can fight back with kindness and educate the ignorant and enlighten them. As some would say racism is a thing of the past, and it is in some cases. We have moved on to focus on bigger and better things since the Civil rights act back in the 60s. Our schools have become a cohesive unit that accepts all races, everybody can sit wherever they shall choose on public transportation, people can sit down together in the same restaurant and be served, no separation. These are all good things that were once thought to be an unpossibility. Today is a vast improvement that makes our society seem like luxaries compared to back in the 1960s, we have over come racism in a sense. What should a college or university do when a racial issue occurs on campus? Address the issue at hand and make sure to have a plan at the ready to either handle or sympathize with the students. Try to resolve the problem in a timely manner. Show them that you care and that you actually want to help.We don 't have to stand for racism, we can kill the bigotry with kindness and educate the belligerent to demonstrate to them their wrong doings. Racism will always be a constant in our society but we have to fight it with knowledge and help our fellow man to becoming greater and more
