The fight to end segregation and racism has been going on since the beginning of time. Racism is one of the biggest problems in the US. It has gone from slavery, to forced segregation, and nowadays to just being looked at differently. Many people of color are sick of this treatment and are now wanting segregated dorms at colleges. Some may still see this as segregation but it was requested not forced. So, if they feel more comfortable with segregated living spaces then it should be allowed even though some may disagree.
Segregated dormitories may not seem like a big deal as it is the colored community wanting it but many would say that this a possible step backwards. This is due to many racial issues rising in the colored community at the moment, which has them in fear and they are just wanting a place to get away from all the hatred. So, at California State University the “Black Student Union issued a set of demands in response to what its members contend are racial “attacks” on campus”(Jeremy Beaman), and of course segregated dorms was one of these demands. This is not only happening in California, it is happening in other states including New York. Thus this situation is creating many tensions across america. …show more content…

This is creating many problems and is going to damage the relationships between races. Separating colored students will make it so there is not as much contact with students of different races thus damaging the relationships between the two. Not everybody wants to see colored people in the segregated dorms though “Tisch junior Kyle Schmidt, who presents as white, said he understands the need for unity of within different races but also said racism will never be abolished unless all cultures are constantly integrating”(NYU News).
