I, AUGUSTINE KIM, was born in El Paso, Texas, but moved to Arizona when I was seven years old. I live with my mom, dad, and older sister. I made many friends within the Asian-American community throughout my life in Arizona, and made more in my schools. When I attended Santan Elementary and Junior High School, I exceeded all of my classes and was respected by all of my peers. However, I slowly became socially awkward and later began to isolate myself from the society after they ridiculed me for my bizarre behavior and intellectual advantages over the other students both average and below average.
-Students’ motivation and meaningful learning in primary science and technology According to Brady (2008), young children usually show an innate attraction towards science and technology. As teachers, we should take advantage of that innate attitude and develop age-appropriate experiences in order to make science come alive in unique and meaningful ways for children. However, the latest science literary NAP report conducted by the NSW Education Standards Authority (2015) reflects that even though most students show interest in learning new aspects of science, many of them do not relate science to their daily lives. In other words, they are not able to assess information accurately when making decisions in the real word.
In many countries living in extremely poor conditions, not only is basic health an issue but also the lack of education. Although it is a necessity, “more than 72 million children of primary education age are not in school and 759 million adults are illiterate” (Rights to Education 1). The deprivation of education should be taken serious if a change is wanted. People need to become aware of how important education is and the benefit that it has.
The Mayans created many remarkable achievements. The Mayans lived in Mexico on the Yucatán Peninsula. During their time of reign in 500-1500, they invented many remarkable achievements by having enough power to influence their people. This added much power to their culture by achievements was available. There are four specific achievements like their trade network, the Mayan city of El Mirador, the number system, and the Mayan calendars.
Education is an important aspect of all nations. Investing great amounts of money, governments try to enforce their educational systems. This has made education an aspect that differentiates the countries. The United States, being one of the riches countries, has developed a wonderful education system. With the use of technology, new teaching methods, and new infrastructure, the United States has transformed its education system.
Achieving an accurate education system is not an easy function for any nation. The Smartest Kids in the World: And How They Got That Way by Amanda Ripley, is a wonderful book that focusing on the important of the education and how can the changing on the education system and schools reforms change the whole country for the best. This book had a positive impact on me, it gives me hope that each country in the world can create stronger and more creative education system; a system that can achieve students and serves both equity and rigor. It’s very important because how different educations vary in different countries. In Asia, their learning is more advance than America. In Japan, their summer is only a month long. In some Asian countries if you’re not the top of the top, you are disowned in your family. If you go to somewhere in Africa, there education is lower because of where they live.

Topic Selection Within the field of anthropology, one of my interests is in medical anthropology/public health. My main interest within medical anthropology is understanding health disparities. Medical anthropology allows me to take a holistic approach, something that I believe public health lacks, to analyze why certain populations have limited access to health care, nutrition, clean water, proper housing, education, etc. Additionally, it allows me to use a critical lens to examine power structures that affect health care access.
The human development index proves that countries where children with few years of education are overall less developed. South Korea’s recent transformations shows how important a strong education system truly is. Thirty years ago it was a low income country with 78% of it’s population illiterate because only 40% of children were able to attend secondary school. After the country decided to invest money in their education system, all children had to opportunity to attend secondary school, thus their economy skyrocketed.
Malcolm X once said “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepared for it today.” In the western world education plays a vital role in shaping our future; it determines if we will survive or fail in the world we created for ourselves. Our world is constantly changing and it requires a society that is well versed in understanding the problems deriving from cultural differences and tolerance of one another’s beliefs and perceptions. With the power of education we are able to deal with the problems of economic, government, religion and culture differences.

In talking to my students I found out that they think very little of competing academically with another country and how the use of technology impacts their ability to compete. Other than a social studies course, we rarely mention what takes place in countries other than our own and it is even more rare to talk about how these countries are using technology or their advancement in education. I had my first tuition class when I was 10 years old. The need came when I cried my eyes out for a Mandarin composition homework that I couldn’t write. My parents themselves were stumped by the homework and thought it was best to enrol me in a Mandarin tuition class. Nowadays, kids as young as 3 years old are enrolled in tuition classes. Is there even a need to send these children for extra classes?
