The Battle of Shiloh (aka the Battle of Pittsburg Landing) took place at Southwest Tennessee on April 6, 1862. The battle started when Confederate soldiers attacked Union soldiers. The leaders of the battle were led by General Ulysses S. Grant of the Union and General Albert S. Johnston of the Confederates. After a while of fierce combat, the Confederates were forced back ending with a win for the Union. But this battle came at a cost, in total 23,000 confederate and union soldiers died. The Importance of the Battle of Shiloh was to get to the Corinth Rail Center, which would allow the Union control of the entire region of the South. The Battle of Shiloh changed history because without this battle it would have taken longer to win the war
