The word "myth" means a fiction or a lie. Some myths are total fictions. Though the word can have powerful influence on a society, they can also exploit facts, which limits certain things such a theory wise.
Well how does myth affect us? In theory and usually in fact, are things that blend truth with fiction. That is why the public gets easily confused by the myth. However it is even more realistic to believe when there is more truth involved.
However, as the definition tells us that, the truth or the falsehood is not the important question. Why? A myth does contain small portion of truth, but this only affects people who accepts the myth. Rather, the myth is a sort of method which public views the nation/ society. Myth tells the public what the nation could believe as a true statement and what they must consider false. At the end all these way, myth manipulate the public, their view of truth.
So what was the American myth? To certain people they might have the different views of 'myth" cause they bring out different meaning to different people, but after watching the first episode of "The Newsroom" the answer would be narrowed down, to "what makes the America the greatest country". Because most of the Americans believe that they are the greatest country in the world.
So they have this sort of belief in their head, because of the "American Dream" which is freedom, opportunity to succeed and an upward social mobility. Well first of all the money they spend on the army, which is the largest amount of budget they spend on army, and they are the ranked no.1 in the world to spend such amount on defense/ military, which makes them 'The Greatest Country', because they think by preserving the democracy, by having the largest army and weapon they think that would save the world from falling into corruption which is falling into communism. Not only are they spending such amount to protect the themselves and the ideology, they are infect use this arms market to make other nation to become a 'Self Made Man' which is combined with the 'Darwinism'. Which is to become a 'self made man' they ought to stay strong to survive in the country and try not to fall in wrong power by not capturing the idea of Communism. So how do America convey the other nation to join the group to stay in their part ?
They do this this in a very precise way, which is by sending in their most well known franchise such as Macdonald, KFC, etc. Now people may think what has this forms got to do with the conveying the message? Well by letting in these firms to their country they are actually getting influenced with Western culture, and ,these firms are going to brain wash them by making public believe whatever comes from America would be great and we should follow them to become like one of them. This is a sly trick America is
