Scholars support the idea that several remarkable Brazilian composers were involved in the development of music education in Brazil. The historical, cultural, and religious influences that identify the current Brazilian society were crucial for the birthday of new pedagogic techniques in the Brazilian educational system. Those techniques worked as principles that are still in use today. Studies have elucidated that culture involves a style of life where tradition, religion, and moral values are interrelated. According to Scott Aniol, “Culture is the tangible expression of a society’s collective worldview. It is religion externalized. How a particular community looks art, life, morality, God, mankind, and justice expresses itself externally in their popular visual art, literature, philosophies, and music” The cultural aspects of the Brazilian society influenced positively the development of piano pedagogy. One example of this influence would be the variety of Brazilian folk music presented in several piano teaching methods, where the authors explore rhythm teaching and nationalistic musical ideas.
