Introduction In most cases, a challenge is proven for many families regarding inheritance. In Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ novel The Inheritance Games, protagonist Avery Grambs learns what it feels like to be a billionaire. After struggling with her last years of high school, Avery learns that she has been granted billions of dollars by Tobias Hawthorne, a billionaire with a family awaiting a fortune. However, the inheritance doesn’t go as expected: Leaving almost nothing to his family and giving it to Avery, the Hawthornes all have different opinions on the problem. ‘Heir apparent’ Grayson Hawthorne, feels like Avery had interfered with the writing of the will, and had an influence on Tobias' decisions. To better understand the driving conflicts of the story, the reader should have an understanding on the topic of inheritance, what it is, how it works, and how it can be taken advantage of.
