While analyzing the three primary source documents, you can detect Elizabeth’s perspective on the role of the Church of England as well as the role of the monarch in the Church of England. The Elizabeth Settlement documents express the ideas from the Peace of Augsburg. The idea gave rulers the ability to decide on what religion the people they ruled over should worship. Europe in the sixteenth century was filled with disputes between Catholics and Protestants. The documents serve the purpose of establishing the policies the Church of England is going to utilize in the future. “The Injunctions of 1559” is the doctrine of wanting to separate from the church in Rome. Protestantism was going to be expressed and advocated more than Catholicism. Like “The Injunctions of 1559”, the Elizabeth’s Act of Uniformity details how the Church of England orchestrated one single text for prayer in order to develop religious structure. “. there remained one uniform order of common service and prayer, and of the administration of sacraments, rites, and ceremonies in the Church of England, which was set forth in one book.” (458). In terms of the role of monarchs in the church of England, leaders were able to exercise control over decision making and policies. People who disobey laws are able to be punished by religious authorities. Setting up standards for how the church of England was going to carry its business was very important in becoming different from Rome. The last primary source, “The Thirty Nine Articles” explains the rules the people of England had to follow once introduced to Protestantism. Understanding how to conceptualize Christian matters is now different. This doctrine is a form of identity the Church of England was trying to
