The Landlady is a main character in a short story by Roald Dahl called “The Landlady”. At first when the readers see her they may think she is a regular nice old lady who forgets things and also owns a bed and breakfast. But as the story progresses things start to change; readers may begin to notice some details that may shift their opinion on this regular old lady. Names of 2 boys who Billy Weaver can’t quite remember but knows about and the landlady who changes the subject soon after. Because the landlady is suspicious, forgetful and smart It shows readers that not everybody is who they seem.

The landlady seems to keep forgetting Billy's name even once calling him “Mr. Wilkins?” ( Dahl, 29) And it seems in her state of forgetfulness she even may have slipped up a bit when talking to Billy. You see in page 34 the landlady asks if he signed in, in the guest book Billy of course says that he did a line that the landlady says may seem pretty alarming if you look more closely at it. “ That’s good. Because later on, if I happen to forget what you were called, Then I could always come down here and look it up. I still do that almost every day with Mr.Mulholland and Mr. . . .Mr. . . .” (Dahl,34) Now you may have caught it when she says “what you were called” it's almost as if later on he won’t well be human anymore, more like a thing because with that little detail she is referring Billy as not even human.Now because of that little detail readers may began to notice how suspicious the landlady actually …show more content…
There was the fact that the landlady changed subjects whenever Billy was about to figure out who the 2 boys were, or it could have been where the landlady said “what you were called” (Dahl, 34). But readers may have noticed what the landlady said when Billy asked about mulholland “ Left?” she said, arching her brows. “But my dear boy he never left. He's still here Mr.temple is also here,they’re on the fourth floor, both of them together”. Readers may have noticed the fact that the boys never left. Why? From my knowledge bed and breakfast are like hotels, so why have they been here for over a year or 2? Now maybe they liked it so much that they never left but a line on page 26 says overwise “we have it all to ourselves,” she said,”. (Dahl,26) She says that they had it all to themselves. But what about Mulholland and Temple I thought that they never left?
