Looking back at our childhood, kids’ movies are a huge portion of it. Sitting down and watching your favorite one at the time on an endless loop, guaranteeing annoying our parents even when doing practically nothing. But what we did not realize at the time was the effects that kids’ movies have on us. Or the lines the writers put in the movies for adults to enjoy the movie as well. Kids’ movies can affect a child’s ideals and learn the perception on how society wants them to look or behave.

The roles of characters in the movie embody certain social roles and characteristics. All the “good” lions in the movie all have light colored fur, including the lionesses. The “bad” lion, Scar, has a darker fur. Scar is associated with the hyenas which are also “bad” in the film and their fur is also darker. In the movie, there is a king of the pack it is a male that the rest of the pride supports. But in the movies the females (lionesses) were the ones that hunted animals to feed the pride. It should be noted however that this is a real depiction of how lions behave in the wild. Also the King at the time, Mufasa, has a very deep voice which is a characteristic of being manly. The “good” lions were not the only characters that were animated to be colored lighter. All of the “good” characters are colored lighter; Timon is colored similarly to the “good” lions.
