In the short story “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, she talks about this little community where everything isn’t exactly how it appears. In the story everyone seems polite and inviting at first until they play “The Lottery.” The lottery is a tradition the people participate in once every year. Usually winning the lottery would be a good thing but not in this story. Tessi Huchinson and Mr. Summers are two main characters in the community. When you first meet Tessi she seems kind and calm, until she is chosen for the lottery, Then she becomes angry, scared, and conniving. She yells, blames, and pretty much betrays her own children.
