The Locked Door by Freida McFadden is a thriller about 37-year-old Nora Davis. When Nora’s father, Aaron Neirling gets convicted of murdering and decapitating over 30 women with dark hair, and blue eyes in his basement, Nora’s grandma decides to change Nora’s surname to Davis. Nora works as a surgeon now, and life is excellent for her. But a few days after she meets up with her college ex, Brady, Nora’s patients end up dead. This could be a coincidence, but Nora isn’t sure when the girls have dark brown hair and deep blue eyes. The same kind of girls Aaron Neirling would murder. After the blood incident, letters from Nora's father's letters pile up on the floor next to her back door. Nora reads one and her father wants her to visit him at the prison. The next day Nora calls in her very first sick day working at the clinic and she visits her father. Her father wants Nora to follow his path and murder people just like he did, but Nora leaves quickly after she finds out that’s what he wants from her. The next day she returns to work and everyone is concerned about Nora because she would never put in a sick day no matter what. Nora’s co-worker Harper even made Nora some chicken noodle soup so she could feel better. After work, Nora calls Brady and asks if she could come over. Nora drives to his complex, and an old lady is rocking on a chair staring at Nora. When Nora comes closer to the building to go to Brady’s apartment the lady looks terrified and says to Nora “ Don’t go in there! Brady murders women, I hear the screams.” Nora is terrified when the old lady's caretaker walks out to the porch she claims the lady has dementia and doesn’t know what she is talking about.
